Another option to travel from Saigon to Con Dao is by ferry.
Firstly, you will need to take a bus from Ho Chi Minh to Vung Tau, then take a ferry from Vung Tau to Con Dao island.
1. Ho Chi Minh to Vung Tau Bus/ Ferry
- Price: from 407,000 VND
- Duration: 2 hours ~ 2.5 hours
Travelers can either take a bus or a ferry to get to Vung Tau from Ho Chi Minh City. It takes approximately 2 hours by ferry and 2.5 hours by bus or limousine.
Phuong Trang Bus (FUTA) offers regular buses from Saigon to Vung Tau, and the first bus departs at 6 am, with the last departing at 7 pm.
If you’re arriving at Tan Son Nhat airport, you can take the Hoa Mai limousine to get directly from the airport to Vung Tau.
Alternatively, Greenlines DP offers daily speed boats from Ho Chi Minh to Vung Tau. You can get to the Bach Dang speed ferry terminal to begin your journey.

2. Vung Tau to Con Dao ferry
The ferry is currently suspended.

After arriving at Vung Tau, you can continue with the ferry from Vung Tau to Con Dao island.
However, I would suggest taking a day to discover Vung Tau instead of going directly to Con Dao because it’s likely that you may not catch the ferry on time, and Vung Tau also has lots of things to offer.
Phu Quoc Express offers only one ferry from Vung Tau to Con Dao island, and the ferry departs at 8 am and arrives at about 11:15 am.

Best things to do in Con Dao
With the highest density of colorful coral reefs in Vietnam, Con Dao is a fantastic place to snorkel and explore the underwater world.
Also, as Con Dao has several small islands such as Hon Tai, Hon Tre, Hon Tu, and Hon Cau, you can go island hopping and relax on the sandy beaches.
Adventurous travelers can also visit the primeval forest at the Ong Dung forest.
Strolling through the forest for about 15 minutes, visitors will have the opportunity to explore many species of trees. These animals only live in Con Dao, such as squirrels and geckos.
