Jeju Island is South Korea‘s gem when it comes to beach vacations. Whether you’re into snorkeling, or just lounging with a cocktail in hand, Jeju’s got you covered. I’ve spent a fair bit of time exploring these beaches in Jeju, and they’re as diverse as they come.

You’ve got Hyeopjae Beach with its stunning turquoise waters, or Gwakji Gwamul Beach if you’re more into the café culture and white sands.

In this guide, I’ll take you to the most breathtaking Jeju beaches.

Gwakji Gwamul Beach

Gwakji Gwamul Beach is a stunning beach on the eastern side of Jeju Island.

It’s known for its soft sand and clear blue waters. The beach stretches over three kilometers long and is surrounded by large black rocks giving it a unique look.

Activities available include swimming, snorkeling, fishing, and kayaking. Don’t miss the picturesque sunset over the horizon – an excellent way to end your day!

In addition to all this, various restaurants and cafes offer delicious local cuisine. 

My tip is to be careful when going into the waters. The strong currents and waves at Gwakji Gwamul Beach may pose a danger for inexperienced swimmers.

How to get to

You can get to Gwakji beach by bus or car. Just drive down the east coast until your reach Udo Island – Read my Jeju car rental tips for more information.

For public transport, take the Udo Highway Bus (Line 600) from Jeju City Bus Terminal. This will take you directly to the beach in about 40 minutes. Here are some tips to get around Jeju island.

Hyeopjae & Geumneung Beach

Located on the South Korean island of Jeju, Hyeopjae & Geumneung Beaches are two of Jeju’s most stunning beaches, known for their white sand and clear blue waters.

Hyeopjae Beach is located in the southwestern part of Jeju in a sheltered bay near Jusangjeolli Cliff. It offers a tranquil getaway surrounded by high cliffs and lush vegetation at the beach’s edge.

How to get to

To get to either of these beaches, you can take a bus from Jeju City to Hyeopjae or Geumneung Park Bus Stop. From either stop, it’s just a short walk to each beach.

How to get to

Getting to Woljeongri Beach is easy. To get there by car, take Route 1160 from Jeju City to Seogwipo, then turn onto Woljeong-ro until you reach the beach entrance. 

If you prefer public transportation, taking a bus from Jeju City Bus Terminal is your best option. Simply hop on Bus #600 or #1030 and get off at the Woljeongri stop.

Jungmun Saekdal Beach

Jungmun Saekdal Beach is located on the east coast of Jeju Island. It’s one of the most popular beaches in Jeju and is known to draw many locals and tourists alike.

The beach offers stunning views of the blue sea and white sand, making it a perfect spot for those who want to relax or take photos.

How to get to

To reach the beach by car, take Route 11 south of Seogwipo City and turn right at the Jungmungwangwang-ro 106beon-gil intersection. After passing Jungmun Resort Complex, you’ll arrive at the Jungmun Saekdal Beach parking lot. 

You can also take the local buses from Jeju International Airport or Seogwipo Intercity Bus Terminal. Get off at Jungmungwangwang-ro 106beon-gil intersection and walk for about 15 minutes to get to the beach entrance.

Hamdeok Beach

Hamdeok Beach is a stunning beach on the east coast of Jeju Island. It has become increasingly popular due to its picturesque views and lush scenery. 

The white sand beach perfectly complements the emerald green ocean water to create breathtaking visuals that have made Hamdeok Beach famous among locals and tourists. 

You can spend your day basking in the sun, kayaking, or fishing. Many eateries are nearby if you’re looking for a delicious meal while enjoying your day at this magnificent beach.

I recommend applying sunscreen when visiting Hamdeok Beach during the summer, as temperatures tend to get quite high.

How to get to

To get to Hamdeok Beach, you can easily take a bus or taxi from Jeju International Airport or Seogwipo City. 

Alternatively, if traveling by car, take Highway 11 southbound and follow signs to Geumneung-Hamdeok Road, then turn right onto the beach road.

The journey should take about 50 minutes from Seogwipo City and just over an hour from Jeju International Airport.

Pyoseon Haevichi Beach

Pyoseon Haevichi Beach is a beautiful beach destination for anyone looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Located about 100 meters from Jeju Folk Village, Pyoseon Haevichi Beach offers stunning views and plenty of activities.

How to get to

Getting to this beach is easy. If you’re driving, take Route 12 from Downtown towards Pyoseon-ri and follow the signs, which lead straight to the beach.

If you prefer public transport, you can take bus number 700 from Jeju City Intercity Bus Terminal, arriving at Pyoseon Bus Stop. From there, it’s a short 10-minute walk.

Samyang Black Sand Beach

Samyang Black Sand Beach, also known as Bijarim Beach or Samyang-dong beach, is a scenic beach located on Jeju Island, South Korea.

With its black sand that sparkles in the sun and majestic views of the surrounding cliffs, it’s no wonder why this beach has become so famous. 

In addition to its beauty, visiting this beach is good for your health. It’s said the beach’s black sand helps those with conditions such as neuralgia, arthritis, athlete’s foot, and dermatitis.

Thanks to its alleged health benefits, locals regularly wash in the warm sand and bathe in the warm water.

When visiting Samyang Black Sand Beach, you can expect to find plenty of activities, such as swimming and fishing.

You can also explore the nearby cliff formations, reportedly over 300 million years old! Additionally, there are many shops selling souvenirs and snacks along the beachfront.

How to get to

To get to this beach, you can take a bus from Jeju International Airport or Seogwipo Intercity Bus Terminal (Line 690). The bus will drop you off at the Samyang Entrance Stop, which is only a short walk away from the beachfront.

If you want to experience warm weather and sunny skies, the summertime is ideal as temperatures range between 25-29°C (77-84°F). 
Alternatively, spring or fall are better options if you prefer cooler temperatures with fewer crowds. Temperatures during this time still reach a mild 18-25°C (65 – 77°F). 

How to visit Jeju beaches?

To visit Jeju’s many beaches, the easiest method is to rent a car – allowing you to travel on your own terms and see parts of the island that are hard to get to by public transportation. 
If you prefer someone else to drive, there are plenty of organized tours and buses available. Some specialized tour companies offer day trips specifically designed for beach-goers.
