12 Best Things To Do In Nha Trang Vietnam You Can’t Miss

Nha Trang has a lovely way of making me forget whatever busy itinerary I had in mind. Once I’m there, a beach walk turns into a long lunch, and suddenly I’m wondering if I really need to do anything else that afternoon.

But there’s plenty worth leaving the beach for. I’ve found some of my favorite Nha Trang experiences out on the islands, around the old temples, at the mud baths, and in places I probably wouldn’t have noticed if I’d stayed beside Tran Phu all day.

So if you’re wondering what to do in Nha Trang, these are the places and experiences I’d make time for.

Planning your Nha Trang trip

Nha Trang is easy to explore without planning every hour, which is exactly how I like it. I’d book the bigger experiences first, then leave the rest flexible enough for beach time, good food, and a few slower afternoons.

If it’s your first visit, I’d choose one island day and one bigger activity such as VinWonders. Then give yourself enough time to explore the city without feeling like every morning needs to start with an alarm.

1. Enjoy a slow morning at Nha Trang Beach

Nha Trang Beach is right in the middle of city life, and that’s what I like about it. You don’t have to travel anywhere or turn it into a big excursion because the sea is simply there whenever you want it.

Morning is my favorite time to come down. The promenade is already busy with swimmers, walkers, and people exercising, while the temperature is still comfortable enough for a long walk along the sand.

I also love the beach later in the afternoon when the city starts gathering by the water again. It feels lively without needing any entertainment, and it’s easy to stay for sunset before going somewhere nearby for dinner.

If you’re staying around Tran Phu, I wouldn’t schedule a full “beach day” unless that’s what you really want. I prefer going down for a couple of hours, heading off for lunch or sightseeing, then wandering back again when the mood strikes.

2. Spend an afternoon at I-Resort

A mud bath is one of those Nha Trang activities that sounds a little unusual until you actually try it. Once I was sitting in the warm mud with nowhere else to be, I understood why it had become such a popular thing to do here.

I-Resort is the one I’d choose for a relaxed afternoon close to the city. The mud bath is only part of the experience, so you can move on to the warm mineral pools and stay for a while instead of treating it like another quick attraction.

I especially like putting this in the middle of a trip. After several days of being out in the sun, climbing steps, and wandering around temples, having absolutely no need to hurry feels wonderful.

And you really don’t need to fill the rest of the day with sightseeing afterward. I’d go back into the city, find something good for dinner, and call that a very successful afternoon.

3. Spend the day at VinWonders Nha Trang

VinWonders is definitely one of the bigger things to do in Nha Trang, so I’d give it its own day. Once you head across the bay to Hon Tre Island, there’s far too much going on to rush back after a couple of hours.

The cable car ride is already fun before you even reach the park. Looking back towards Nha Trang from above the water gives you a completely different view of the city and coastline.

Inside, you can move between rides, the water park, aquarium, gardens, shows, and all sorts of colourful corners. I find it much more enjoyable when I stop trying to cover every attraction and simply choose the parts I’m most excited about.

VinWonders is an obvious choice if you’re visiting Nha Trang with kids, but I wouldn’t label it as a family-only attraction. There’s enough here for adults to have a very fun day too.

4. Go island hopping around Nha Trang Bay

Island hopping is easily one of my favorite things to do in Nha Trang on a sunny day. As soon as the boat pulls away from the city, the whole trip starts feeling much more like a proper seaside holiday.

Most island tours mix swimming, snorkeling, beach stops, and time cruising around Nha Trang Bay. I like that you’re still doing plenty during the day, but it never feels like you’re rushing between sightseeing stops.

Hon Tam Island is a good choice if you want somewhere comfortable where you can relax by the water. Other trips spend more time snorkeling and moving between different areas of the bay, which I’d choose if being in the water is your main priority.

I prefer booking a tour for this one because it keeps everything wonderfully simple. Someone else sorts out the boat and route while you concentrate on swimming, eating, and enjoying the day.

5. Wander around Po Nagar Cham Towers

Po Nagar Cham Towers is one of the cultural sights I’d always include on a first trip to Nha Trang. The red-brick towers immediately feel different from the Buddhist temples you’ll see elsewhere around the city.

The complex dates back to the Cham civilization and is still an active religious site today. I like that you’re not simply walking around old ruins because people still come here to worship and leave offerings.

Take a little time to look at the details on the towers rather than heading straight towards the viewpoint. Some of the carvings and brickwork are easy to miss when the city and river views are competing for your attention.

I’d pair Po Nagar with Hon Chong because they’re close to each other. It makes for a really easy morning without trying to fit five different Nha Trang attractions into the same day.

6. Climb up to Long Son Pagoda

Long Son Pagoda is another place I’d make room for when you want to see more of Nha Trang beyond the beach.

The pagoda at the bottom is lovely, but keep following the stairs because the enormous white Buddha higher up the hill is the part that really makes the visit memorable. You’ll get views across the city as you climb, so there are plenty of natural places to stop along the way.

I enjoy the slower pace here. You can wander around the temple grounds, look at the smaller shrines, and climb when you’re ready rather than rushing straight towards the Buddha.

And once you’re back down, you’re close enough to central Nha Trang that the rest of the day can be completely different. I’d probably be looking for lunch by then.

7. Spend some time at Hon Chong

Hon Chong has always been one of my favorite places in Nha Trang when I want to be beside the sea without going back to the main beach.

The huge rocks along the shore are the main attraction, but I enjoy the setting more than anything else. You get open views across the bay, sea breeze, and a much quieter atmosphere than you’ll find around central Tran Phu.

I like coming here without much of a plan. Wander around the rocks, sit somewhere for a while, then find a nearby cafe if you’re not quite ready to move on.

Because Hon Chong is close to Po Nagar, I’d visit both on the same morning. They’re different enough that the combination doesn’t feel repetitive, and you can finish somewhere overlooking the water.

8. Try Nha Trang’s local food

Nha Trang is very easy to enjoy when you love food. Seafood gets plenty of attention, but I’d definitely look beyond the restaurants lining the beachfront.

Bánh căn is one of my favorites here. These small rice cakes are cooked in round moulds and topped with things like egg or seafood, then served with dipping sauce that makes it very easy to keep reaching for another one.

I’d also look for bún chả cá, nem nướng Ninh Hòa, and bánh xèo while you’re in the city. They’re all quite different, which is exactly why I’d rather try a new dish each day than order the same safe meal beside the beach.

Some of the places I enjoy most are small local restaurants where you can see everyone around you ordering the same few dishes. If you want a little help finding those spots and understanding what to order, going out with a local guide can be a really fun evening.

9. Hike to Ba Ho Waterfall

Ba Ho Waterfall is where I’d go when I want to swap the beach for something a bit more active.

The name means “three lakes,” and the route takes you through forest and over rocky sections towards a series of natural pools. It’s not just a gentle walk to a viewpoint, so expect to use your hands in places and do a little scrambling.

That’s part of what makes the day fun for me. You’re actually working your way towards the water rather than being dropped right beside it.

Once you reach the pools, cooling off feels especially good after the climb. I’d give Ba Ho enough time to enjoy the walk and swim rather than trying to squeeze it into an already busy afternoon.

10. Visit the Institute of Oceanography

The Institute of Oceanography ended up being much more interesting than I expected on my first visit. There’s plenty to see inside, but the huge whale skeleton is still the part I remember most.

The museum has collections of marine specimens from Vietnamese waters and beyond, so it’s easy to spend a couple of hours looking around.

This is also one of the better things to do in Nha Trang when the weather isn’t cooperating. After several outdoor days, an airier indoor stop can be very welcome.

If you’re traveling with children who love marine life, I’d move this higher up your list. There’s enough here to keep both adults and kids interested without taking over the whole day.

11. Stop at Nha Trang Cathedral

Nha Trang Cathedral is an easy place to add when you’re already exploring the city centre. Sitting slightly above the surrounding streets, the stone church feels surprisingly peaceful considering how busy Nha Trang can be below.

I like the Gothic-style architecture and the stained-glass windows, but it’s the contrast with the rest of the city that makes it interesting to me. After seeing so many pagodas and Cham towers around Vietnam, stepping into a stone Catholic church gives you something completely different.

You don’t need hours here. I’d take a look around, enjoy the view from outside, then continue into the city for coffee or lunch.

That’s why I’d keep it as its own stop without turning it into a major half-day attraction. It fits naturally into a day when you’re already wandering around central Nha Trang.

12. Visit the Alexandre Yersin Museum

The Alexandre Yersin Museum is small, but I found it surprisingly interesting. It’s inside the Pasteur Institute and focuses on Yersin’s life and scientific work in Vietnam.

You can see old photographs, letters, documents, books, and scientific equipment that he actually used. I always enjoy museums where personal objects make someone from history feel much more real than a few dates written on a wall.

What I like most is that the museum doesn’t take hours to visit. You can spend some time looking around, learn something completely different about Nha Trang, and then carry on with the rest of your day.

If you enjoy science, medicine, or Vietnamese colonial-era history, I’d definitely keep this one on your list. It gives the article a very different kind of Nha Trang experience from beaches and islands.

Tu Van Shell Pagoda is still one of the most memorable pagodas I’ve visited in Vietnam. The whole place is decorated with shells and coral, so there’s always another little detail to notice once you start looking closely.

But the part I remember most is the famous “18 levels of hell” tunnel. It gets dark and narrow as you work your way through, which makes the experience completely different from peacefully wandering around a normal pagoda courtyard.

Tu Van is in Cam Ranh rather than Nha Trang itself, so I’d save it for a longer stay. If you enjoy unusual architecture and places with a bit of personality, though, I really enjoyed this one.

It’s certainly not somewhere I’d confuse with any other temple I’ve visited in Vietnam.

Where to stay in Nha Trang

If you’re planning plenty of beach time, I’d look at the beach resorts in Nha Trang rather than automatically staying right in the city centre.

Amiana Resort Nha Trang is my pick if you want somewhere peaceful by the water while still being close enough to enjoy Nha Trang. I like that it feels like a proper resort stay without making the city feel too far away.

Mia Resort Nha Trang is lovely if you want a slower, more romantic trip, with the mountains and sea around you. And Vinpearl Resort Nha Trang makes sense if you like the idea of staying on Hon Tre Island and having VinWonders nearby.

My favorite things to do in Nha Trang

If I were planning another Nha Trang trip, I’d still want the same mix: a sunny island day, a lazy mud-bath afternoon, local food, and plenty of time near the sea. Then I’d fit places like Po Nagar, Long Son, and Hon Chong around those slower days.

That’s why Nha Trang works so well for me. There’s always something to go out and do, but the city never makes me feel like I need to spend every hour sightseeing.
