In this article, you will know the ten amazing things to do in Phong Nha Ke Bang National park, with tips to enjoy the best of your trip to this natural wonder.
Ride a scooter around Phong Nha National Park
Riding a bike exploring Phong Nha National park is a fantastic experience that you should not miss on your trip to Phong Nha.
As the park is enormous, most of the time, you will be alone on your bike, enjoying nature. You will be amazed by the peaceful atmosphere and the majestic landscape of the surrounding areas.
Tips for riding bikes in Phong Nha
If you’re not an experienced driver, I would suggest not to ride a motorbike in Phong Nha as some parts of the road can be dangerous. Also, there’re lots of cows walking on the streets so you might hit them.
Please note that it gets dark after 5:30 pm, and most of the roads don’t have street lights, so you should arrange your travel time appropriately.
Where to rent a bike in Phong Nha?
You can rent a bike easily in Phong Nha town. I rent mine from Motorvina, and it was in good condition.
Watch the sunset at Phong Nha Farmstay
What is better than sipping a cocktail and enjoying a beautiful sunset after an adventurous day in Phong Nha?
The beautiful view of the sunset on the paddy field is impressive. Notably, there’s also a Happy hour drink from 5:30 to 6:30 pm for visitors at this Farmstay.
Explore Paradise Cave
Paradise Cave, or Thien Duong Cave, should be on your list of places to visit in Phong Nha.
Paradise cave is located in the heart of a population of limestone mountains at the height of 191m, surrounded by the forest belonging to Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park.
As its name suggests, when you first step into Paradise cave, you will be lost in a vast maze with stalactites and rocks, creating a sparkling and fanciful scene like in paradise.
The deeper you get inside, the more you admire and fall in love with the spectacular beauty of this 31.4 km long cave.
Tips: Day trip from Hue
If you only have time for a day trip to Phong Nha from Hue, you can book this tour, which includes a day trip to Paradise Cave and Phong Nha’s iconic sights (churches, bridges and Doc Mieu base – DMZ of Vietnam)
Discovered in 1990, Dark Cave has become a favorite place to visit in Phong Nha Ke Bang.
The way to enter the cave is unique, as you’ll need to get on the zipline and swing your way to the entrance. If you’re scared of height, you can get on the kayak to the cave.
After entering the cave, you will be challenged to explore the dark cave as adventurers with headlights. You’ll then find a natural mud bath to enjoy and relax.
Besides cave discovery, you can try different games on Chay River such as kayaking, short zipline on the river, or conquering the river by rope.
Enjoy the afternoon at Mooc River
Located close to the Dark cave, Mooc river has a brilliant natural landscape along with diverse ecosystems, accompanied by fascinating experiences such as Kayaking or swimming.
Visiting Mooc River, you can enjoy the fresh spring water with a temperature of about 20 degrees Celsius, surrounded by immense majestic mountains.
I had a great relaxing time at Mooc River while enjoying delicious food in the middle of the national park.
Go trekking at Botanical Garden
With the wild beauty, Botanical Garden is an attractive place to visit in Phong Nha Ke Bang National Park.
Visiting the Botanical Garden, you will get an opportunity to be immersed in the wild nature and learn about the primeval forest.
Also, you can visit the exhibition house, walk along the small path to the forest, enjoy the cold water in Vang Anh lake and get amazed by Wind Falls.
Ride a bicycle along Son river
If you’re not a big fan of scooter or want to enjoy your journey at a slow pace, why not renting a bike and riding along the river?
The poetic Son River with greenish colors meandering around Ke Bang limestone mountains embellishes the unique features that attract visitors to Phong Nha.
The river flows along the mountain, embracing the cornfields and banana fields next to the scattered neighborhoods.
All of this makes a picture of a charming and beautiful peaceful life amidst the wilderness of the forest.
You can also rent a boat or join tourist boats to explore the beauty of the shore, or stopping along the river and try local dishes such as grilled fish.
Make a wish at Duck Stop
I heard about this place from other travelers when I visited Phong Nha. As its name, Duck stop is a place where you can play with the ducks.
What can you do at Duck stop?
The most popular activity to do here is “Wishing with a duck.”
Holding a duck and letting it go while making a wish may sound silly, but it’s fun, especially if you’re seeking a relaxing afternoon.
Also, the kids at Duck stop can speak English well, and they will show you around the Pepper farm, teaching you how to each Banh Xeo, or take you to the hill where you can get a great view of Bong Lai Valley.
Get a cold beer at The Pub with Cold beer
The Pub with Cold Beer is an ideal stop for those who love chilling and enjoy the “Farm to table experience.”
You can relax at the hammock, enjoy the beautiful view and the food. For those who like unordinary experience, you may catch and kill the chicken.
How to get there?
The Pub with Cold Beer is located close to duck stop so you won’t miss it. The roads are quite worn and bumpy, so be careful when driving!
Chill at Wild Boar Eco Farm
Wild Boar Eco Farm is an Instagrammable spot at Bong Lai Valley that you should not miss on your trip to Bong Lai Valley, Phong Nha.
The view from a hammock on the terrace is extraordinary and breathtaking. It’s relaxing to lay in a hammock watching over the river and the mountains with a beer.
Also, you can walk around the farm and enjoy the beauty of the countryside.
Don’t forget to get on the swing and take some beautiful photo shots while you’re here!
