How to get to Kantiang Bay

From Krabi Airport to Kantiang Bay

If you’re landing at Krabi Airport, you can take a minivan from Krabi Airport to your hotel in Kantiang Bay directly.

It costs about $10 and takes about 3 hours, depending on the traffic and the number of stops the minivan has to make.

If you enjoy your space, you can always opt for a private taxi. It’s a bit more expensive, around $65, but you’ll have the luxury of traveling at your own pace.

Ao Nang/ Krabi to Kantiang Bay

It’s the same if you depart from Ao Nang or Krabi town. You can take a van from Krabi to Koh Lanta, and note for a drop-off at your hotel in Kantiang Bay.

If you’re adventurous, renting a car is an excellent option. This way, you can explore other parts of Koh Lanta before settling down in Kantiang Bay.

Just make sure you’re comfortable driving in Thailand, as the traffic rules and road conditions can be different from what you’re used to.

Phuket to Kantiang Bay

You can catch a ferry from Phuket to Koh Lanta, which costs around $30 per person. The journey usually takes 1.5-2 hours.

You can also take a bus to Koh Lanta from Phuket, which costs only $15 and takes 6 hours.

Once you arrive at Koh Lanta, you can hire a taxi or a tuk-tuk to get to Kantiang Bay. The rates vary, but you can make the trip for around 500 THB.

Pro Tip: Some ferries offer a combined ticket with a minivan ride to Kantiang Bay. Look for these options when booking your ticket for a more hassle-free experience!

Getting around Koh Lanta

Already on Koh Lanta and wondering how to get to Kantiang Bay?

Local transport is your answer! Tuk-tuks are available throughout the island, and they’re a budget way to get around.

If you’re up for a bit of a thrill, rent a scooter for around 200-300 THB a day. But only do this if you’re an experienced rider and always wear a helmet.

Where to stay in Kantiang Bay

If you’re going for a luxe experience in Kantiang Bay, Pimalai Resort is your go-to. Stunning sea views and top-notch service—you’ll feel like royalty.

If you’re looking for that sweet spot between comfort and budget, Alama Sea Village Resort and Puteri Lanta Family Villas are your calls. Both offer great value, and are perfectly situated so you can maximize your beach time and still be back for happy hour.

And for backpackers, head straight to Aha Lanta Cozy Hostel. It’s basic but cozy, and super close to the beach.

There’s nothing like lazing on a beach with a good book or just watching the waves crash into the shore.

The sand at Bakantiang Beach is powdery and soft, and the ambiance is incredibly relaxing.

Sunset Watching

Now, if you skip everything else, don’t, I repeat, DON’T skip watching the sunset at Kantiang Bay.

I found a cozy spot on the beach, laid down my towel, and witnessed the sky burst into shades of pink, orange, and gold.

Beachfront Dining

No trip to Kantiang Bay is complete without dining on the beach. Picture a table set up just for you, right on the sand.

The gentle waves provide the background music, and the food—oh, the food—is simply divine. I opted for a traditional Thai seafood platter, and I still think about it.

When to visit Kantiang Bay

The best time to visit Kantiang Bay for that classic sun-soaked beach vacation is between November and April. The skies are usually clear, the sea is calm, and you can kick back and soak up the rays.

I was there last December, and the weather was lovely—clear blue skies every day and temperatures that made lounging by the beach a heavenly experience.

If you enjoy some peace and quiet, you might find the monsoon season from May to October appealing. The rain turns the landscape into a lush green paradise.

Just keep in mind that sea conditions can be a bit rough during this time, and not all activities may be available.

How long should you stay in Kantiang Bay? Well, that’s a tough one because it depends on what kind of vacation you’re looking for.

If you’re planning a quick getaway to recharge, a 3 to 4-day trip might be enough to hit the major highlights. I did a short trip once, and it was perfect for unplugging and just enjoying the beach vibes.

But if you’re all about soaking in the local culture, and activities, and perhaps exploring surrounding islands, then a week or longer would give you a more leisurely-paced vacation.

I took a 2-week trip once and felt it was just the right amount of time to truly unwind and explore.
