Cheonjeyeon Falls Jeju Korea: A Brief Guide
If you plan to visit Jeju island, Cheonjeyeon Falls should definitely be on your bucket list. This impressive landmark is a string of three small waterfalls, and I love my hike there.
About Cheonjeyeon Falls
Cheonjeyeon Waterfall, also known as “The Pond of God,” is located at the southern tip of Jeju island near Seogwipo-do.
It consists of three falls, with the first cliff being 22 m (72 ft) high falling into Cheonjeyeon pond with a depth of 21 meters.
From here, the water continues its journey two more times, creating the second (30 m high) and third waterfalls before reaching the sea.
Note: Be sure not to be confused Cheonjeyeon Waterfall with the similar-sounding Cheonjiyeon falls in Seogwipo.
The Cheonjeyeon legends
The legend says that fairies bathed in the falls in the moonlight. In May of even-numbered years, the Chilseonyeo (Seven Nymphs) Festival is held in their honor here.
People used to bathe here as they believed the water could heal them. However, visitors aren’t allowed to swim here any longer.
My visit to Cheonjeyeon Waterfall
Before getting to the falls, my group passed the Cheonjeyeon Valley by Seonimgyo Bridge. It was an interesting vermilion humpback bridge, with the seven white nymphs adorned on the side.
We continued on our walk and explored the area. The surrounding was green and lovely, with lots of shades. There were a few benches to sit down and relax too.
My group spent around 1.5 hours here. While it was not a challenging walk, there were quite a lot of stairs.
How to get to Cheonjeyeon Waterfall
From Jeju Airport, you can take Airport Bus number 600 bound for Jungmun and get off at Yeomiji Botanical Garden Bus Stop.
The journey takes about 1.5 hours. You can walk about 5 to 10 minutes from the bus stop to reach the falls.
What to pack
Don’t forget to pack water and snack for your trip to Cheonjeyeon falls. There’s no shop once you pass the bridge.
Also, wear comfortable shoes and bring a hat and sunglasses if you travel on sunny days.
