Hotel Staubbach, hotel in Gimmelwald

Built in the 1890s, this historic hotel was one of the first hotels in Lauterbrunnen. The family-run Hotel Staubbach offers panoramic views of the Staubbach Falls and Lauterbrunnen Valley.

I’ve traveled various places around the world since the 1970’s and never encountered a more helpful and cheerful manager as Adam. He provided detailed maps and advice before we arrived. When we reached the lodge it was as if we were meeting a friend. The two Maria’s and Nathalie also were very friendly and helpful. The room was well positioned to access restaurants, shopping, public transportation and to admire the waterfall from our balcony. Rooms were comfortable and a lovely hot breakfast was included. It was such a wonderful stay!!

Hotel Oberland, hotel in Gimmelwald

The charming, historic and family-run Hotel Oberland in the center of Lauterbrunnen is only a 5-minute walk away from the train station. The Staubbach waterfall is nearby.

The single room was TINY and not updated since the 80s. But it was clean; the sheets were perfectly white and the room had a stunning view of the waterfall. Breakfast was fine, but nothing to write home about as the only hot option were soft-cooked eggs.

This property is in such an awesome location with amazing views and the person at the front desk was great; he was very friendly and went out of his way to assist us. We stayed in a family suite with a queen bed downstairs and two twin beds in the loft. The room was great with a balcony and views on both sides. Waking up to falling snow and views of the snow capped mountains was amazing. Also loved that the hotel is pet friendly and right next to the Wengen station.

For its age, the property is very well maintained and it was a pleasure to stay there. The owners were present every day and I saw them engage with guests all the time which shows they are committed to their guests and their property. The staff were all wonderful and attentive from the front desk people, the restaurant servers, the bartender, and the porter. The included breakfast was great, the food at Jack’s Brasserie was delicious, and the views from our balconies were beautiful

    Absolutely magical place.

Absolutely magical place. We were only there for one night sadly. But went to Birg at sunrise (the cafe was closed and the only people there were construction workers but it was incredible to see the sunrise over the alps with that view). We had pizzas and beers at the Mountain Hostel - the pizza was amazing! Would recommend to anyone.

The most beautiful and picturesque place I have ever been to. Hopped off the gondola and my jaw dropped. This place is tiny with not a whole lot going on but just a quick sunset stroll through the village will have you thinking you’ve reached heaven.

Gimmelwald is lovely - it's quiet and beautiful.

Gimmelwald is lovely - it's quiet and beautiful. I caught it between rainy spells, unfortunately, but that just gave the air a particularly fresh quality. There's a viewpoint part way up the main road in the village, and if you stand there and close your eyes, you can hear the waterfalls from across the valleys. It's a great location if you want to explore some of the mountain walks - even if you just fancy walking up to Murren, or down to Trummelbach falls, or exploring the mountain generally. There are plenty of paths in the area, and the guesthouse where I stayed gave me a card for use in Murren at places like the pool, as well as maps of the area. The village has an "honesty shop" for touristy items, and various other places which operate on an honesty basis, where you can buy local farm goods.

Esther's Guesthouse was such an amazing place to stay.

Esther's Guesthouse was such an amazing place to stay. This is totally off the beaten path. There are no cars in the town of Gimmelwald. The hosts were amazing. They gave us the ability to order homemade bread, did our laundry for us and recommended things to do! The place was super clean! They have a shared kitchen which had all the equipment needed to prepare meals. We were able to make dinner each night for our family of six. The location was so beautiful, with views of the Swiss Alps! We walked through the small town where local farmers sell fresh milk, cheese & sausages, all on the honor system! Literally, you just leave the money and take what you need! My kids found this amazing! I would highly recommend staying here if you want to get away from the busier towns! I will definitely plan to come back and stay!

This is a very small town with few vehicles except farming ones. It is very walkable but there are always steep inclines or stairs. In mid April there are many farmers that do not have their cows or sheep outside and some are away for this "in between" time for ski season and summer hiking season. Wild chamois are sometime around!

We loved the entire experience! We felt welcomed and taken care of by the staff, and we really enjoyed getting to know them. Our room was lovely, and we loved getting to look out our windows and see paragliders, mountains, and the garden with chickens. The location in Gimmelwald is ideal! The food was amazing - Jens did an awesome job on the barbecue! We would definitely come back. Thank you to Elena, Heike, and Sabine. You all are amazing hosts and so hardworking!

Beautiful location (right in front of Gimmelwald Cableway Station), simple complementary breakfast and excellent bar sums up my single day stay here. We lit a campfire outside, grabbed couple of drinks from the bar & chit-chatted with everyone around. You can use common kitchen but make sure you buy the stuff from Lauterbrunnen or Interlaken while arriving as this village has literally no store. Visiting Schilthoorn is easy-peasy from here.

It totally exceeded our expectations. Best way to spend our 25th wedding anniversary. Imagine waking up with a view of the Alps from your room, what could be better than that? Add the friendly and homey vibe of the place, the best pizza we've ever had, and guests and staff who all make you feel like family. Our experience was truly magical. We definitely recommend the Mountain Hostel and would stay here again next time we visit Gimmelwald.

Hosts were very polite and helpful. We had issues with our booking at another hotel, so this booking was done by BOOKING.COM. The hosts Tobias was kind enough to accommodate at the last minute. He prepared the apartment and was ready in an hour. Since we arrived late, Tobias has even provided groceries for late quick meals. The apartment was clean , nice and had all the amenities. The view from bedroom was snow clad mountains.

Pensión Gimmelwald has endless charm. The home is situated steps from the cable car station and the views are absolutely jaw dropping. Sabine and the staff are perfectly attentive and clearly enjoy being the gracious hosts that they are. The rooms are impeccably clean and larger than expected. The rustic charm and ambience and the warmth of the hosts truly make this a home away from home. It was an unforgettable experience!

This is the cleanest lodging I have ever stayed at. The staff was lovely. The location was convenient to cable car. Area was very beautiful with many nearby trails. The kitchen facilities were perfect for preparing meals of the fabulous produce you may purchase at COOP in Murren. We loved having access to the beautiful community pool after long hikes. Peaceful and Quiet - would love to return!

Very happy with my stay! The owners were so helpful and accommodating! The place was very clean and looked great. The owners were very kind and so quick to help once I realized my phone adapter didn’t work with Swiss electric outlets. They found an adapter immediately even though it was past 10pm. I didn’t get a chance to try the breakfast because I left the hotel early every morning.

This is a well preserved 19th century hotel located in the beautiful alps. The rooms were large with comfortable beds. A sink is in the room. There is a fun casual bar/ restaurant area that has a guitar, piano, books and board games. You will need to take the cable car to access Gimmelwald, a non car hamlet. The hamlet of Murren is a very short walk.

This is a quaint older hotel/pension with shared bathrooms (why I gave it a 4 instead of a 5.) The outside patio with spectacular views and the home brew was great. It is family-friendly with children playing (somewhat noisy) and babies. We ate dinner and breakfast at the hotel, and the food was ok. The staff was very friendly.
