Tokyo DisneySea Japan

Tokyo DisneySea is often considered a “more mature” place than Tokyo Disneyland, but Disney’s charm still presents its games, attractions, and decorations.

I had a fun time exploring the Tokyo Disney Sea as a solo traveler, and here I share my experience and things you should know before visiting Tokyo DisneySea Japan.

About Tokyo DisneySea Japan

If Disneyland divides areas into territories like Tomorrowland or Fantasyland, DisneySea divides areas into ports.

Inspired by the myths and legends of the sea, Tokyo DisneySea is divided into seven design areas with different themes: Mediterranean Harbor, American Waterfront, Mysterious Island, Mermaid Lagoon, Port Discovery, Lost River Delta, and Arabian Coast.

How to buy Tokyo DisneySea tickets

There are different ways to purchase Tokyo DisneySea tickets.

However, the most convenient and hassle-free way is online via Klook. You can get instant confirmation deals and the best prices.

Besides, you can buy tickets online from the official website of Tokyo Disney Resort or at the counter on the day you go.

Tokyo DisneySea Pass

There are many different types of tickets on sale at Tokyo Disneysea.

One-day Passport

  • Adult: 7,400 yen
  • Minors 12-17 years: 6,400 yen
  • Children 4-11 years: 4,800 yen

This is the most popular ticket because usually you only need to spend a whole day exploring this amusement park.

This ticket includes admission and games at Disneysea. Try to come here early and stay until closing time, and you will find one ticket is enough.

2-Day Passport (2-Day Pass – Enjoy Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea for two consecutive days)

  • Adults: 13,200 yen
  • Minors 12-17 years: 11,600 Yen
  • Children 4-11 years: 8,600 yen

This ticket is for those who have more time and want to explore Disneyland and Disneysea areas.

With this ticket, you can choose: Have fun at Disneyland or Disneysea for two days, or split up one day playing at Disneyland and one day playing at Disneysea.

Tokyo DisneySea attractions

If you only plan to visit DisneySea in 1 day, here is a list of the best games to join

Tower of Terror

The Tower of Terro is my favorite game in DisneySea. I got Fast Pass here, so it was easy to join.

Simulating an abandoned hotel in New York in 1912, the Tower offers a thrilling experience where participants free-fall at a dizzying speed.

Indiana Jones Adventure

I loved the thrilling ride on the jeep! Dodging booby traps and supernatural forces to search for the Fountain of Youth was fun!

Lost River Delta

Big Band Beat

I loved this show! The broadway-themed jazz show featuring Mickey Mouse and friends singing, dancing was amazing. It was worth 1-hour waiting.

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea

The game simulates a dark journey to the bottom of the deep sea. It was interesting to discover the mysteries and creatures lurking in the deep ocean.

Sindbad’s Storybook Voyage

The search for adventures of Sindbad and his tiger friend Chandu was a quick trip, suitable if you travel with kids.

Arabian Coast

Tokyo DisneySea FastPass

There are some top-rated games, and the downside of that popularity is that many visitors want to participate.

On crowded days, you may have to wait up to 2 hours in line if you’re going to join that game. However, you can avoid that by getting Fast Pass.

What is Fast Pass?

Near the attractions are Fast Pass machines that let you book priority tickets to the game. You can use your entrance ticket (keep it carefully) to issue your Fast Pass at available time slots.

However, because Express Tickets are limited per day at DisneySea, these Passes usually run out very quickly. Also, after your Fast Pass has been issued, you must wait until your return time starts to have another Pass.

Therefore, think carefully about which game you’d like to play so you can run fast to the Fast Pass machine.

The following attractions offering Fast Pass:

  • Tower of Terror
  • Nemo & Friends SeaRider
  • Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Crystal Skull
  • The Magic Lamp Theater
  • Mermaid Lagoon Theater
  • Journey to the Center of the Earth
  • Toy Story Mania!
  • Raging Spirits
  • 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea

The lottery tickets

Besides Fast Pass, DisneySea’s lottery system in the Mediterranean Harbor area offers every visitor an opportunity to see shows with limited seats.

At Tokyo DisneySea, Big Band Beat is the only show that uses the lottery system. However, you can still watch the show even if you don’t win the lottery.

I didn’t win the ticket, so I ended up lining for 1 hour to get to the theater and didn’t have a good seat.

Getting around DisneySea

From Venice gondola boats to the railway systems, Tokyo DisneySea didn’t cease to amaze me.

Venice boat

The Venice boat trip was my favorite part of DisneySea. On the day I visited, the queue was not long, so after 15 minutes I could get on the boat.

Railway system

I also enjoyed seeing the park from above with the railway. It was a relaxing, scenic view from Discovery Port to the American Waterfront.

Best time to visit Tokyo DisneySea Japan

The best time to visit Tokyo Disney Park is before or after Golden Week (early April or late May).

At this time, the weather in Tokyo is pleasant, not too sunny nor too cold, suitable for fun activities and entertainment.

If you are not too uncomfortable with the crowd, visiting the Tokyo Disney Sea at Christmas, Halloween or Easter offers exciting experiences. The park is splendidly decorated during festive seasons and has many extraordinary performances.

Busy days in Tokyo DisneySea

Tokyo DisneySea is not just for kids but for everyone, so it’s crowded all year round. Still, there are some periods when the park is more crowded than usual.

If you visit on these days, your waiting time is huge! Three hours for a game instead of 45 minutes.

Therefore, it is worth trying to stay away from these days as much as possible.

  • Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday see the largest number of visitors in the week.
  • School holidays: no matter which day of the week, the park is sure to be awfully crowded
  • Summer: from July 20 to August 31
  • Winter season: December 26 to January 6
  • Spring: Around March 25 to April 5

Japanese holidays: There are 16 different holidays in Japan, but many locals take a whole week off because some holidays are the same week. There are three winter holidays to avoid:

  • Golden Week: April 29 to May 5
  • Obon: mid-July or mid-August (depending on the calendar each year)
  • New year: December 31 and January 1

How to get to Tokyo DisneySea

Take the JR Keiyo or Musashino from Tokyo station, then get off at Maihama station (the station closest to the amusement park).

From Maihama Station, you can take the Disney Resort Monorail to Tokyo DisneySea Station (10 minutes). Alternatively, you can walk to the park in approximately 20 minutes.

Tokyo Disney train

The ticket for the Disney Resort Monorail is 260 yen per adult and 130 yen per child. In brief, the total trip will cost you about 480 yen, including the train ticket.

Tips: I recommend purchasing Japan Rail Pass to save costs when traveling in Japan.

What to eat in Tokyo DisneySea

There are plenty of delicious snacks that you should try, such as caramel popcorn, Chandu Tail chicken-filled steamed bun, classic Disney turkey legs, and cold beer.
